Project Duration

[1.11.24 - 30.05.25]

Neoprene is an important material in the water sports industry, yet there is currently no end-of-life solution for neoprene products in the UK resulting in over 380 tonnes being burnt or landfilled each year.

To promote circularity in the water sports industry and address this issue, this project will examine the scope for developing a UK neoprene recycling facility whereby neoprene products are recycled and repurposed into new products (similar to Circular Flow’s facility in Bulgaria). This will be achieved by establishing level of interest among UK businesses for returning end-of-life wetsuits and accessories to a central repository, understand consumers’ willingness to purchase and wear recycled neoprene products, and explore the logistical components of developing a recycling facility. If findings indicate sufficient support for a neoprene recycling facility, an investment pack will be developed and shared with funders to help build the facility.
